Problem:
After Windows 10 major update the Net Express license is corrupted.
Resolution:
Some Windows 10 major feature updates delete a number of registry keys that are used by the license management system. These registry keys are used when checking for a license and if they are not found the process will fail to function correctly. This will happen when starting NX and when starting the License Management System.
Registry keys that may be deleted:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\{D50D8764-ECB7-4b58-8568-8AF1403B76F1}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\{D50D8764-ECB7-4b58-8568-8AF1403B76F2}
Resolution options include:
-Run command 'protcfg.exe /force_reset', to reset the license.
-Make a backup of the above registry keys before installing a Windows upgrade. Add a process to back up the license registry keys prior to the feature update and restore them after the update is complete. This process would have to be done manually by the user.
